Fishing Strategies:

Baitfish and leeches are an important part of a trout’s diet as they provide trout with more bang for their buck and they rarely refuse the opportunity to eat one.  You can opt to dead drift or strip this productive pattern as a steamer.  We have had success with both methods.  We have found that a slow retrieve produces the best results, but don’t be afraid to think outside the box from time to time and mix things up with a quick retrieve.  Leeches are an important part of a trout’s diet, especially in high water conditions.  The constant pulsating action of the pine squirrel strip will fool even the most selective trout.  Do not be afraid to tuck this fly close to all types of structure including, undercut banks, and heavy drop-offs or deeper slots.
