Shea Gunkel’s Radiation Baetis is a tailwater favorite. Depending on the size and color, it can match the hatch for both Blue-Winged Olives (BWO) and Pale Morning Duns (PMD). This fly will quickly get down in the zone with a heavy tungsten bead. This fly also has a “hotspot” collar that acts as a trigger to fool selective trout. It is one of those flies that everyone needs in their fly arsenal. Our favorite colors to fish are Orange and Purple.

Fishing Strategies:
A Radiation Baetis is an exceptional attractor imitation and fishes well under a wide range of conditions. It can be fished as an attractor or used as a dropper in a tandem nymphing rig. Some of our favorite droppers off this fly are Mercury Flashback Pheasant Tails, Sparkle Wing RS2, and Foam Wing Emergers.
