Graphic Caddis

Description

John Barr’s Graphic Caddis is a must-have during the caddis season.   The Graphic Caddis features a partridge collar and ostrich herl head that breathes life.  The holographic tinsel under the stretch-tubing gives the illusion of the silvery air bubble that accompanies a pupa as it emerges in the water column.  Fish it anywhere caddis are prevalent, you will not regret it!

Fishing Strategies:

​We recommend fishing this pattern as an attractor in a traditional nymphing rig.  Dredging it near the bottom of the stream where you will find the largest concentrations of caddis larvae.  It’s a good idea to concentrate your efforts on moderately paced riffles and runs as well as pocket water.  Graphic Caddis will be most productive between May and August.  This is when caddis larvae and pupae are routinely swept into the drift from higher flows.

We typically dead-drift or swing a Graphic Caddis.  Tailwater enthusiasts need to have their fly boxes crammed with an assortment of caddis larvae and pupae in sizes 14-18.  Some of my favorites include Mercury Cased Caddis, Bead Head Breadcrust, and Mercer’s Swing Nymph.
