Micro Flashtail Egg

Description

The Micro Flashtail Egg is one of the most realistic egg patterns out there.  Egg imitations are most effective during the spring and fall when the most amount of natural eggs are rolling along the river bottom.  Egg-and-midge combinations is a great option during the winter.  The egg is a great attractor that draws attention to the smaller midge droppers.  Our favorite colors to fish a Micro Flashtail Egg in are Peach, Pink, and Chartreuse.

Fishing Strategies:

Typically, we will fish micro egg patterns with a 9-foot 4X leader terminating with a piece of 5X fluorocarbon.  Fish that are focused on eggs are not leader shy, so using a 4X leader will be a nice advantage to have.  Clarity is the biggest concern when fishing egg patterns.  In clear water, we suggest using 5X tippets and in dirty water dropping to 4X.

During spawning season (February, March and then again in October, November) we typically fish eggs with tiny Baetis nymphs as droppers.  Some of our favorite droppers to trail behind a Nuclear Egg are a Flashback Mercury Pheasant Tail, Stalcup Baetis, Sparkle Wing RS2 and a Jujubaetis.

Do not fish to trout on redds.  Targeting trout on redds hurts the natural recruitment of younger fish and is unethical.  As anglers, it is very important to protect these spawning fish, creating the least amount of stress as possible.
