Brian Chou’s Fortune Cookie is a fantastic streamer pattern. It has an excellent sink-rate with a heavy cone head and a weighted body. The warm profile breathes life, making it irresistible to aggressive fish in the spring and fall. The sparsely tied body and stinger hook to help eliminate “short strikes”. This fly makes for a great sculpin pattern and general searching streamer. We have found success with this pattern from Colorado to Argentina and everywhere in between. Our favorite colors to fish this pattern are both Black and Olive.

Fishing Strategies:
Minnows, baitfish, and leeches provide trout with more bang for their buck and they rarely refuse the opportunity to eat one. In most cases, we strip a Fortune Cookie with a traditional down and across delivery. Although, we have found that a quick, short retrieve provides the best results. But, don’t be afraid to think outside the box from time to time and mix things up with a slower retrieve or a dead-drift presentation. Whether you are swinging it or stripping it, a Fortune Cookie is a must-have and deserves a spot in any angler’s fly box.
